Of all shapes, few have as significant a claim to fame as the pentagon! The famous Pentagon building houses the United States Department of Defense and is one of the country’s most recognizable landmarks.
Despite this fame, learning how to draw a pentagon can still be difficult. Luckily, with the help of this guide, you’ll discover just how easy and fun it can be!
How to Draw A Pentagon
Step 1
In this tutorial on how to draw a pentagon, we’ll build the pentagon. You’ll learn to draw using some smaller shapes.
For this design, it’s best to use a ruler and pencil to draw out the shapes before going over them with a pen.
Using a ruler is helpful not only to make sure the edges are straight but also to make sure the lines are the same length.
With your ruler, you can start by drawing a triangle. The reference image we provide will guide you as to the shape, size, and position it should be. Once you’ve drawn that first triangle, you’re ready for step 2!
Step 2
For this second part of your drawing of the pentagon, continue building the shape as a whole.
As our reference image shows, draw a second triangle over the other with your ruler. When the two are together, it will look like a pyramid.
Step 3
A third triangle will be added instep of our how-to draws a pentagon guide; the triangle is on the right side of the pyramid shape you got in the previous step.
This only leaves a few spaces to fill, and that’s what we’ll be doing in the next few steps of this guide, so let’s move on!
Step 4
You drew other triangles in the previous steps for drawing the pentagon, and this step will be no different!
This will fill in the space that will form the base of the pentagon, as shown in our reference image. With this triangle added, all you have to do is fill in the endpoint.
Step 5
Before we move on to the final coloring step of this, how to draw a pentagon guide, all we have to do is add a triangle shape.
This should be the easiest, as all you need to finish is to add another line to the shape.
Your pentagon is complete! Ultimately, it should look like a pentagonal cake cut into different pieces.
Your pentagon is technically complete, but before we go any further, you can do a few things to give it your twist!
Step 6
First, if you used a pencil to draw the pentagon, this is a good time to go over the pencil lines with your pen.

You can also drag out one of the shapes to make it look like a disc is missing or draw some lines or extra pattern details on the pentagonal pieces.
If you are creative and ambitious, you can search for a picture of the Pentagon building and edit this shape to look like the famous structure!
These are a few of the multiple ideas you could come up with for this design, so get creative and see what you can come up with.
Step 7
Now that you’ve reached the end of your drawing of the pentagon, this final step is to bring it to life with eye-catching color.

We used some nice bright colors in our reference image, but this is just one of the many ways you can colorize it.
You can keep one color for all pentagonal discs or add more colors.
If you have drawn additional details or patterns on the pentagon, these will allow you to add even more color variations.
Color choices are only part of the fun, as you can also play around with different mediums and art tools!
You can use acrylic paints or colored pencils and markers if you want to recreate the bright look of our image.
